The UK National Learning and Teaching Focused Network
The National Learning and Teaching Focused Network emerges from a recognition that the diversity of learning and teaching focused academics in the UK can perpetuate a sense of isolation and “not fitting” in contrast to Teaching and Research colleagues. The network aims to challenge this sense of isolation by forging a national community, celebrating and championing the diversity of learning and teaching focused colleagues, and supporting all in their career journeys. The network also works to enable colleagues to share good practice, helpful tips, and information about promotion, publications, webinars, conferences, and more. It exists as an email list (sign up via the website) and runs regular online and in person events.
Learning and Teaching Focused is a catch all term to cover all contract types that are not Teaching and Research (e.g. Teaching and Scholarship, Education and Scholarship, Teaching Only, Teaching Focused, Education Focused), and the network also welcomes Teaching and Research staff and all of the many colleagues who are third sector professionals supporting learning and teaching development.

ISEEC
The Impactful SoTL Educational Enterprise Collective (ISEEC) is a vibrant, online community dedicated to advancing the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Originating from a grassroots network at the University of Hertfordshire, initially supporting postgraduate students on the Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, ISEEC has since grown into a dynamic international collective of over 250 scholars. Its mission is to inspire, support, and connect academics and students engaged in SoTL inquiries, providing a welcoming space to explore pedagogical challenges, share impactful practices, and shape future-focused educational thinking.
Meeting four to five times each academic year, ISEEC sessions are energising one-hour gatherings where global guest speakers ignite meaningful conversation through thought-provoking presentations. Each session encourages active participation through provocations, debates, resource-sharing and collaborative idea development. Aligning its themes with both personal and global SoTL challenges, ISEEC nurtures a spirit of inquiry, reflection, and transformation across the higher education landscape. Whether you are new to SoTL or a seasoned scholar, ISEEC offers a supportive environment to grow, connect, and innovate. To join this inspiring community, please email Professor Earle Abrahamson at e.abrahamson@herts.ac.uk and become part of a collective shaping the future of higher education.
